Mistakes to avoid in your SEO Strategy

We all know how important SEO Strategy is, but did you know if you’re not using the tools correctly your website could be being neglected by the search engines.

Given that SEO is an amazing tool when it comes to boosting traffic to your website, it should definitely be a part of your marketing tool kit. 

If you’re having trouble getting traffic through to your website, here are some common mistakes and how you can avoid them:

  1. Ignoring on-site SEO – On-site SEO is a number of tactics to help your website become easier to search in the big search engines. Make this as easy as you can as this will make it easier for the search engines to understand the content, & structure of your website. This is very important, so your website can be rated higher on their index.
  • Not Prioritising mobile-friendliness – This means that the search engine bots will use your mobile version of your site for indexing and ranking, to help the mobile users find what they’re looking for.

With Google driving more traffic to the mobile-friendliness sites, it’s important to make sure your website is prepared for the mobile users.

  • Keyword Stuffing – Google defines keyword stuffing as the practice of loading a webpage with keywords or numbers in an attempt to manipulate a site’s ranking in search results.

This is an older type of trick in the SEO game as you’re trying to trick the bots into ranking your page higher. This being said, the algorithm can swiftly pick up if there has been an unnaturally high number of keywords added, without context or relevance to your website.

  • Expecting Immediate results from your SEO Strategy – We would say it can take anywhere from 3-6 months before a flow of traffic starts coming through to your website.

To make sure you stay on top of your SEO strategy game, you’ll need to create relevant and consistent content.

Commitment and consistency are key. While most of us probably have a SEO book we look back on, one thing to remember is no one-size-fits-all SEO strategies for every business – commitment and consistency are key!
